Laminate Basics

Laminate is an easy, cost-effective way to get the high-end looks of hardwood, tile and stone
into just about any room of your home. Striking realism and high-level durability make for the
perfect flooring solution for active households with energetic children and pets.

Laminate typically consists of 4 layers:

  1. A durable wear layer on the surface that provides protection from scratches and stains.
  2. A photographic visual layer that showcases unique and realistic wood, stone and tile visuals.
  3. A dense core layer that provides stability and resistance to moisture.
  4. A backing layer that offers even more stability and guards against subfloor moisture to protect from warping and buckling.

Laminate Care

Once installed, laminate is simple and easy to care for! It’s important to establish a regular
routine to keep your floors looking new.

  • Weekly, if not more often, you should sweep or vacuum your floors with a soft-bristle brush or a dust mop to pick up any loose debris
  • Attach felt pads to furniture feet to keep chairs from scratching and heavier items from causing long-term wear and tear
  • Place a floor mat inside and outside of every entrance to catch loose dirt and protect high-traffic areas from wear
  • Dry quickly after damp-mopping to prevent moisture from sitting and soaking in
  • Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive devices that aren’t manufacturer-recommended
